Two Weeks Notice

It’s never easy leaving a job. No matter what the circumstances, having the dreaded “I’m giving you my two weeks notice” conversation with your superiors is not something anyone really looks forward to. For me it was especially hard because I was leaving a company that I had called home for a majority of my professional life. More importantly, I was leaving behind a group of coworkers and bosses who had been a constant system of support and leadership. However, I am a firm believer in stepping outside of my comfort zone whenever possible – it’s the only way to grow as a human being and as a professional - so, when an amazing opportunity to relocate and take on some new challenges presented itself, I jumped.

My Attempt at Domestication: No-Bake Energy Balls

I can't cook. That's not self-deprecation, that's fact. I once tried to bake those frozen shrimp poppers in the oven and the fire department wound up at my house (no joke). I'm just not good with kitchen appliances and anything requiring more than a fourth grade math education. 

I saw this recipe for No-Bake Energy Bites on my Pinterest feed and they looked so good that I had to at least attempt a batch for myself, despite my less than stellar kitchen history. The verdict? Success!! 

The Lost Report

During my junior year of college, I took a technical writing class as an elective that kicked my butt. Unbeknownst to me when I registered, this "just for fun" class of mine was a requirement for the engineering and construction management students at Central Michigan (Go Chips!). The class itself wasn't full of technical jargon that I couldn't grasp, it was a general writing class that focused on the technical structures that we would likely encounter in the workplace. I won't tell you how many times I've put the skills I picked up in that class to use (*cough* not once *cough*)...

17 Things I Want My Future Children to Know

As I near my 26^th birthday, I realize that I’m not a child anymore (Don’t worry. I’ve been aware of this for a while, but it always seems to be a point of focus around my birthdays). I understand that I am still very young and have more to learn than I could ever possibly imagine, but over the years I have learned quite a few lessons of my own. I’ve learned things about myself, about other people just trying to find their way like me, about society in general, and about life. It’s this knowledge I want to share with the next generation, with my own future children, with my three amazing nephews and beautiful niece whose innocent smiles divulge no understanding of hate or malice, in the hopes that it will help them when the time comes for them to make their own way in this world.

I love Instagram. Seriously. If I could hug all 13 of their brilliant employees, I would do it in a heartbeat. The filters, the social media integration…it’s like they made this beautifully simple yet wildly addicting photo sharing app just for me.

A Pinteresting Conundrum: To Pin or Not to Pin?

Pinterest. Everyone is using it. I often lose hours of my day pinning crafty projects and event planning ideas to my boards that I tell myself I’ll try later - when I have someone else's time and salary to work with – and I love it! You know what I don't love about Pinterest? Product pushing by companies trying to make this social medium into something it's not.

I’ll Be Better, I Promise!

It’s been a while since I have updated, I apologize. Things have been a little crazy and I’ve been feeling a little short on inspiration. But I’m going to do better, I promise! Keep checking back for posts on a more regular basis.

False Threats

Every day someone in my news feed threatens to delete their Facebook account. Every. Single. Day. The excuses given range from too much drama to too many changes, and most recently because of the spam attack causing offensive images to show up in people’s news feeds.

Normally I don’t pay attention to the daily complaints that show up in my feed - time is too precious to me to waste on pointless negativity. For some reason, however, these threats I’ve been seeing really bug me. Why? Because it’s a lie - these people are posting false threats and it’s annoying.

Dear Mr. Anderson:

Your company needs to get it together; and I don’t mean straighten your shirt, brush off the dirt kind of “get it together.” I’m talking about the going to rehab, kicking the habit, changing your life around kind of “get it together.”

Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems

I really don’t understand the excitement over voting to raise the debt ceiling before America defaults. This isn’t great, it’s tragic.

I can guarantee you that for the next week our news stations are going to be devoted to airing clips of lawmakers high-fiving and praising each other for reaching this bipartisan agreement - but these celebrations should be treated like a slap in the face to American citizens. This vote isn’t a solution, it’s just prolonging the inevitable and giving government more room to spend money it doesn’t have. We will find ourselves back here once again with even more debt.
